2020 Australian Speedway Sidecar Championships cancelled
Following consultation between the Mildura Motorcycle Club and Motorcycling Australia (MA), the 2020 Australian Speedway Senior and Junior Sidecar Championships have been cancelled.
Both championships were scheduled to be held at Olympic Park, Mildura, on 6 and 7 November, but due to COVID-19 and related State Government border closures, neither event will go ahead this year.
Mildura Motorcycle Club President, Neale Hancock, said: “While we understand that speedway fans and competitors will be disappointed, the Mildura Motorcycle Club, in consultation with MA, had to make the tough decision to cancel the 2020 Championships.
“I would like to thank our members who have put significant work into preparing for this championship. I would also like to thank, the riders, passengers, event sponsors, and fans for their patience during this global pandemic, and rest assured that we will come back bigger, better and stronger in 2021.”
MA and the Mildura Motorcycle Club have already locked in a date for next year’s Australian Senior and Junior Sidecar Championships - Friday, 23 April and Saturday, 24 April, 2021 at Olympic Park, Mildura. Qualifying for the Australian Junior Championship will take place on 23 April, with Australian Senior Championship qualifying on 24 April.
This rescheduling means that the Speedway Motorcycling Club of WA, who were scheduled to host the 2021 Championships, will now host in 2022, with dates to be organized between the club and MA.
MA thanked the Mildura Motorcycling Club for their tireless efforts in preparing for the championships and look forward to 2021. Both MA and the Mildura Motorcycle Club thanked the Speedway Motorcycling Club of WA for their understanding and support for the Mildura Motorcycle Club now running the 2021 Championship.
