Triumph announce ‘Bond Edition’ Scrambler 1200
The 25th film in the 007 franchise features a bit of Triumph, specifically the Scrambler 1200 and Tiger 900, in action sequences. And now Triumph enthusiasts can get a bit of Bond in the form of the Scrambler 1200 ‘Bond Edition’.
Announced in May, the Bond Edition carries a number of special features and bespoke “Bond” details. Only 250 units will be released globally, of which six or seven are allocated for Australia, with a July/August delivery expected.
Bond in Black
Based on the Scrambler 1200 XE, the Bond Edition is finished in premium Sapphire Black paint inspired by the Scrambler 1200s used in No Time to Die. Detail touches include an oversized Triumph tank badge and a brushed decal foil knee pad with hand-painted gold coachline.
Specific Bond-esque touches include the 007 logo on the exhaust number board and lower side panel finisher, ‘Bond Edition’ embroidered branding on the rear of the premium leather seat, a unique 007 TFT instrument startup screen and individually numbered identification on the billet handlebar riser.
Other cosmetic touches include a black-out anodized finish for the rear mudguard, grab rail and sump guard, black forks, a black powder coated swingarm and sprocket cover, and gold-accented engine badging. There’s also a high-level front mudguard in a black anodized finish, fog lights with unique black anodized shrouds, carbon fibre end caps for the exhaust silencers, a machined front brake reservoir, black rear wheel adjusters and a stainless steel headlight grille.
Each unit also comes with a “handover pack” that includes a numbered letter hand-signed by Triumph’s CEO Nick Bloor and a premium rucksack.
1200 XE Base
Each Scrambler 1200 Bond Edition is based on the top-spec, off-road focussed Scrambler 1200 XE, which means a 1200cc parallel twin producing 66.2kW at 7,400rpm and 110Nm at 3,950rpm – in what Triumph calls “Scrambler tune”. The liquid-cooled SOHC twin features a 2-into-2 exhaust system and high-mount Arrow silencers.
The torque-assist clutch and 6-speed gearbox are also from the Scrambler 1200 XE, as is the steel cradle frame and aluminium swingarm. Suspension consists of an adjustable Showa 47mm USD fork with 250mm of wheel travel and twin Öhlins rear shocks with remote reservoirs and 250mm travel.
Brembo brakes (twin 320mm discs up front with M50 monobloc calipers and a 255mm rear disc with a 2-piston floating caliper) with ABS, 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels with Metzeler tyres, all LED lighting, heated grips, adjustable pedals, keyless ignition, a USB power socket and the My Triumph Connectivity System are also standard.
Triumph’s second-generation, full-colour TFT instrument display features the aforementioned 007 startup and can be personalised. There is also illuminated backlit switchgear, while six riding modes – Road, Rain, Off-Road, Sport, Rider and Off-Road Pro – adjust throttle response, traction control and ABS intervention to suit. Off Road Pro deactivates ABS and traction control entirely for tail-out fun.
Aus arrival
While Australian allocation of the Scrambler 1200 Bond Edition is confirmed, as is a delivery time of late July, local pricing has yet to be finalised. Despite pricing estimated to be in the $27,000 range plus ORCs (a new Scrambler 1200 XE currently starts at $21,700), the entire Australian allocation of the Bond Edition was accounted for by enthusiasts who put down deposits within minutes of its announcement.
