Trials at the Games
According to www.trials.com.au the opportunity came about as a result of some casting people from the Commonwealth Games organisation witnessing a Moto Trials demo at the Australian Motorcycle Expo in Melbourne last September.
Colin Scott, who co-ordinated the team of riders for the event, organised a demonstration by Trevor Campbell, who was also the 'lead' rider for the display, and Tom Scott for the producers, directors and choreogrpahers of the event, who were reportedly 'blown away'.
In late November, the Trials crew were given a formal invitation to participate, the team of 16 riders selected and a schedule for practice and training organised.
The participating riders were: Trevor Campbell, Brendon Johnson, Ben Loone, Tom Scott, Matt Newland, James Harvie, Tim Coleman, Alex Coleman, Brendan Smith, Scott Owen, Steve Johnson, Richard Halls, Darcy Watson, James Rogers, Adam Ford and Peter Wines.
The team committed upwards of 200 hours to perfect their part - remember, they had to dodge ballerinas! - putting trials on display for an estimated viewing audience of 1.4 billion as well as creating a great spectacle in its own right.
Campbell was part of the Australian team that finished in second place in last year's Trials des Nations.
The team extended a special thanks to Gas Gas Motos Australia who were invaluable in sourcing equipment for the team, as well as the importers of Montesa, Beta and Sherco.
