Thailand Grand Prix postponed
Originally scheduled for 20-22 March at Buriram (the round after Qatar), the Thailand Grand Prix was officially postponed on 2 March. With coronavirus reportedly already present in the country, the Thai government made the announcement that all large scale public events, such as the GP race weekend, would be postponed or cancelled to prevent the spread of the virus.
A release from the FIM, IRTA and Dorna announced that the round had been officially postponed, but unlike the outright cancellation of the MotoGP class at Qatar, there are hopes that the Thai GP will still go ahead - for all classes - with Dorna looking at options for an alternative date later in the 2020 season.
With the Thailand GP now officially postponed, that leaves the US GP at Circuit of the Americas as the potential first round for the MotoGP class in 2020, but both this round and the following at Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina are in doubt.
The USA has issued warnings to people travelling to Italy, but has yet to enact similar travel restrictions and quarantines on arrivals from Italy, as Qatar has. Argentina has no recorded cases of the coronavirus at time of writing and have stated their round on 17-19 April will go ahead, but may impose travel restrictions to prevent the virus reaching the country.
Worst case scenario for the premier class is that all four flyaway rounds are postponed or cancelled, meaning a season start at Jerez for MotoGP is a possibility.
FIM/IRTA/Dorna say they will publish updates as soon as they are available.
