MX Nationals Round 1 postponed
Motorcycling Australia (MA) and series promoters, Williams Event Management (WEM) confirmed on 13 March that the opening round, scheduled to take place at Horsham on 4 and 5 April, has been postponed.
Kevin Williams, MX Nationals Promoter commented: “WEM takes the health and safety of the MX community as its first priority. We also need to make sure that we follow the best advice from the government health departments. This means that postponing is the right call at this time to ensure that our riders, officials and volunteers are protected.”
Alongside the MX Nats season opener, Horsham was also due to host the FIM Oceania Junior MX Tri-Nations Cup on the same weekend. As the Tri-Nations Cup would feature teams from France (New Caledonia and French Polynesia) and New Zealand, the widespread travel bans and quarantine periods introduced this month has led to that competition being postponed, too.
There are hopes that both events will be rescheduled to sometime in the second half of 2020, but due to the fast-moving nature of the coronavirus outbreak and increasing government-mandated regulations on movement and large-scale public gatherings, there’s no indication at this stage as to specifically when that would be.
With a line drawn through Round 1, the next event on the MX Nats calendar is Newry on 3 May, but this is also subject to ongoing developments with the coronavirus.
