McLaren gets MotoGP wildcard at Phillip Island
After spending this year in Spain riding in the CEV Buckler national championship, where he scored a best finish of second at Jerez, McLaren will ride the Avintia Blusens CRT bike at the Island, filling in for the injured Yonny Hernandez.
McLaren scored a wildcard ride in the Moto2 class at Phillip Island last year, and is looking forward to the new challenge of riding a CRT bike in the main game this time around.
"I am excited to participate in MotoGP for the first time, and to do so in my country," McLaren said in a release on Wednesday.
"It's a great opportunity given to me by the Avintia Blusens team and I want to use it well, although I know it will be very difficult to be at the level of such experienced riders. The first objective is to adapt to the bike and progress slowly."
Hernandez, who injured his shoulder at the Japanese MotoGP round, hopes to return for the final race of the 2012 season in Valencia on November 11.
