Husqvarna presents new FS 450 Supermoto
Key changes include an all-new frame that claims to deliver improved handling, while a redesigned engine offers more usable power. The frame has been redesigned to be stiffer for what Husqvarna says is better rider feedback and optimum straight-line stability. Complementing this are modifications to the Husqvarna-exclusive carbon fibre subframe that is now a two-piece design and is 250 grams lighter.
The engine is lighter, too, with a redesigned cylinder head shedding 500g compared to the MY18 FS 450 and making the SOHC 450cc single even more compact. Complemented by a more compact silencer, these engine changes are said to deliver improved usability and handling. Peak power is listed at 47kW.
Settings for the FS 450’s standard traction and launch control functions have been updated, with the Pro Taper handlebar reshaped for improved ergonomics.
Bodywork has been significantly modified, with the radiator shrouds extending back to the seat base, while the underseat plastics and side cover is now a two-piece design, offering easier access to the rear suspension.
Cosmetic changes include a blue finish for the all-new frame (with grey scuff guards) and all-yellow lower fork shrouds. Curiously, there’s no written ‘Husqvarna’ identification on the new FS 450, just the ‘H’ crown graphic on the plastics, silencer and offside engine cover.
Other, more subtle changes include new routing for the throttle cable and fuel lines, a 5mm increase in chain adjustment length and an updated cooling system. The 48mm WP AER air fork front suspension and WP DCC rear monoshock carryover from the current model, but both feature new pistons, with a new piston on the rear shock, to make best use of the new frame. Brembo braking remains for the new FS 450, as do the Alpina spoked rims and Bridgestone race slicks.
Pricing for the MY19 Husqvarna FS 450 Supermoto has yet to be revealed, but something in the region of the current model’s $15K range is expected. See your Husqvarna for local availability, pricing and further details.
