Honda preview CBR 300R
Styling for the new entry level model, with its full fairing, streamlined seat cowl and twin headlights, is lifted from Honda's famed CBR 1000RR sports bike, but much of the appeal of the 300cc lies in its increased capacity over the previous CBR 250R, as well as what Honda say is sharp pricing.
Locally-delivered CBR 300Rs will be split across two models: Standard (non-ABS) in Black or Red for an MLP of $5699 and the ABS model, in Black, Red or Tri-Colour for $5999 (both prices exclude all on road costs).
The larger capacity engine delivers improved power and torque, without sacrificing fuel economy, according to Honda. The longer stroke motor increases power to 22.7kW and 27Nm of torque.
Low-friction engine internals and other technologies means the CBR 300R is fuel efficient, too, with a claimed range on a full tank of 390km*.
Throttle response and power delivery has been enhanced, and the CBR 500R-style exhaust system combines functionality with on-track style.
37mm telescopic front forks and Pro-Link monoshock rear suspension are standard, while 2-channel ABS is offered as an option.
In Honda showrooms in July, the CBR 300R is set to take the fight to Kawasaki for the title of Australia's top-selling bike.
