GasGas release junior balance bikes
GasGas already have an electric model – the MC-E 5 - in their range for younger riders. They now have one for the youngest riders, too, with the release of electric balance bikes.
Like the electric balance bikes offered by Husqvarna and KTM, the GasGas units have been developed in partnership with Stacyc, with two models available. Both are liveried in the style of the GasGas factory motocross bikes and feature aluminium frames, a BMX-style front fork, functioning brake and throttle, composite wheels with pneumatic tyres and electric motors that offer selectable power modes to suit youngsters’ developing skills.
The GasGas Factory Replica 12eDrive is the smaller of the two, aimed at kids around the 3-to-5-year-old age bracket, or with an inner leg measurement of at least 35cm. With 12-inch wheels, a 33cm seat height (that’s adjustable up) and weight of 7.7kg, the 12eDrive can be walked along, allowing kids to learn the basics of pushing off, coasting, and balance, before the electric motor is activated.
Three power modes in the electric motor limit speed to 8km/h (Training Mode), 11km/h (Transitional Mode) and 14km/h (Advanced Mode), respectively, while the enclosed chain and thermal protection for the motor and battery ensures safety.
The GasGas Factory Replica 16eDrive is aimed at 4-to-8-year-olds, or kids that are too tall for the 12eDrive, with an inner leg measurement of at least 45cm. Wheels on this model are upsized to 16-inch and the adjustable seat sits at 43cm, with weight increasing to 9kg. The 16eDrive also features a high-spec brushless electric motor that adds more low-end power and increases top speed in Advanced Mode to 20km/h. The 16eDrive’s aluminium frame is tough enough to handle small jumps, too.
Both balance bikes feature a lithium-ion battery pack that offers a 60-minute run time, with 60-minute recharging, ensuring minimal downtime between rides. Additional battery packs are available separately.
Being electric, the noise from these balance bikes is minimal, making them ideal for suburban backyards and built-up areas.
Number plate decals are included, inspired by the GasGas Factory riders in the US (Justin Barcia - #51 and Taddy Blazusiak - #111), as well as a #1.
Pricing had not been confirmed at time of writing, but expect to pay around $1,000 for the 12eDrive and $1,400 for the 16eDrive.
