Gardner re-signs with GYTR GRT Yamaha for 2025
GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK will take an unchanged rider lineup into the 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship, with both Remy Gardner and Dominique Aegerter re-signing for next season. For both riders, the new deal will mark their third season with the satellite team.
For Gardner, the re-signing ends speculation over a return to MotoGP following his participation in three rounds this season. Two of those were as a replacement for the injured Alex Rins (at the German and British GPs), while the third was as a wildcard for Yamaha at the Japanese GP. On each occasion, the 26-year-old completed the race, albeit at the tail end of the field.
The Aussie’s previous experience of MotoGP was a single season with the Tech3 KTM team in 2022; the year after he won the Moto2 World Championship.
Moving to WorldSBK with GYTR GRT Yamaha in 2023, Gardner took some time to adapt to Yamaha’s YZF-1, but improved at the tail end of his rookie season and carried that form into 2024, achieving his first podium at the Dutch round in April, followed by strong performances at the Czech and French rounds. Unfortunately for Gardner, his 2024 season ended early following a crash at the Estoril round that left him with a fractured wrist.
“I am happy to be staying for another year with the GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK team,” Gardner said. “2024 has been a bit mixed, but overall, there are a lot of positives, including my first podium in WorldSBK at Assen. I’m still hungry for more and hopefully we can build on some of the steps we’ve made this year to be fighting at the front more consistently with another year under our belt in WorldSBK with the R1.”
Noting Gardner’s improvement in his first two WorldSBK seasons, Andrea Dosoli, Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing and Research & Development Manager, believes that improvement will continue.
“Remy has had a strong season, fighting for the podium on numerous occasions as well as often finishing as the top R1 rider. We are confident he can continue this trajectory towards more success in 2025.”
