Triumph creates ‘EC1’ special edition of Street Twin
Continuing a run of Special Editions released by Triumph this year that includes the Bonneville Gold Line family, Street Twin Gold Line and Tiger 900 Bond Edition, more are coming for 2022, including the Thruxton RS ‘Ton Up,’ Rocket 3 R & GT ‘221’ and Street Twin ‘EC1’.
Created with a British - and particularly a London - audience in mind, the Street Twin EC1 Special Edition takes its name from the postcode for a section of London’s East End that’s said to have a vibrant custom/classic motorcycle culture.
East End Style
In what Triumph call a tribute to a genuine British cultural movement, the Street Twin EC1 Special Edition is finished in two-tone Matte Aluminium Silver and Matte Silver Ice paint, accented with ‘EC1’ and Triumph decals on the fuel tank. There’s also a ‘Street Twin Ltd Edition’ graphic on the side covers.
The mudguards are finished in Matt Silver Ice, while a fly screen in the same colour is available as an accessory.
Complementing the EC1’s unique colour scheme are black mirrors, forks, engine covers, headlight shell and 10-spoke alloys, all of which are unchanged from the regular Street Twin.
Street Twin Spec
Special colours and decals aside, the EC1 is the same as a regular Street Twin, meaning it’s powered by a liquid-cooled 900cc parallel twin engine producing maximums of 47.8kW at 7500rpm and 80Nm at 3800rpm.
Fitted with a brushed stainless exhaust system that includes twin upswept silencers, this SOHC 8-valve engine is matched to a 5-speed transmission and fitted into a twin-cradle tubular steel frame with a steel double-sided swingarm.
Suspension consists of 41mm forks and a dual shock rear with preload adjustability, while the 18-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels are shod with Pirelli Phantom Sports Comp tyres.
Braking consists of a 310mm front disc with Brembo 4-piston caliper and 255mm rear disc with Nissin 2-piston caliper. ABS is standard.
On the tech front, the EC1 Special Edition gets all the regular Street Twin’s gear as standard, which isn’t comprehensive but includes switchable traction control and two riding modes – Rain and Road. A slipper clutch is also standard, along with an instrument pod that combines an analogue speedo with a digital tacho and LCD display for the various adjustable functions.
The EC1 also gets an immobiliser incorporated into the key and underseat USB charging port.
Seat height is a low 765mm, fuel capacity is 12 litres and wet weight is 216kg – all unchanged from the standard Street Twin.
Accessories, Arrival and Pricing
Beyond the bespoke fly screen, there’s a range of 120 existing Street Twin accessories to fit the upcoming EC1 Special Edition.
Due for Australian release in January, the 2022 Triumph Street Twin EC1 Special Edition won’t be a numbered limited edition like some previous Triumph offerings, but will only be produced for the 2022 model year.
Australian pricing for the EC1 has been set at $17,150 ride away – a $1,160 premium over the standard Street Twin’s ride away price.
