SWM release new enduro models
While the enduro pair previously featured a red frame and predominantly white, black and red plastics, the MY21 models have gone for an eye-catching yellow finish on the steel perimeter frame, with black front/rear mudguards, a black headlight shroud and black plastics with charcoal and yellow graphics. Black rims (previously bare metal) and yellow gripper ribs on the saddle complete the new look.
While the Husqvarna-esque origins of the mechanical and cycle parts remain, SWM have progressively added their own upgrades and improvements over the years. Chief among these for 2021 is new engine mapping for both models. Primarily done to meet Euro4 emissions, this update also results in smoother power delivery, according to SWM.
Other changes include the introduction of a stronger alloy subframe, a new headlight and new indicators. Addressing complaints over the saddle on previous SWM enduros, this has been reshaped on both 2021 models to improve rider comfort.
Of the two SWM enduros, the RS 300R provides maximum mid-size versatility with its 297cc single ready to conquer rough trails and tough climbs while delivering big thrills on a small budget.
The larger RS 500R, with its 501cc displacement, is designed for riders with an appetite for open-class engine performance, friendly trail-bike compliance and predictable handling. SWM calls it the ‘King of the Bush’, able to devour desert tracks and open trails while making molehills of mountains.
Both models feature high-spec componentry that includes Mikuni fuel injection, KYB suspension, Brembo brakes and Michelin Enduro Comp IV tyres.
A six-speed gearbox, electric starting, 21/18-inch front/rear wheel combo, 260mm/240mm front/rear brake discs, 7.2-litre fuel tank and 963mm seat height are common to both models. The RS 300R weighs in at 107kg and the RS 500R is 112kg.
Pricing for the new-look 2021 SWM enduros has risen by $300 from the last update in 2019, now at $8,590 for the RS 300R and $9,290 for the RS 500R (+ ORCs). A six-month parts and labour warranty is standard.
