Pitster Pro 125X3R PitBike
A flick through the pages of this magazine shows dozens of advertisers and hundreds of bikes to choose from. The good side of that is that there is a lot of choice out there for the potential buyer. The bad side? Because there are so many, how do you pick a good 'un? Start with a long term, reputable dealer like GT Motorcycles, who have been in the business of importing dirt bikes, ATVs and compact bikes for years. They were also among the first to introduce pitbikes and other compact off roaders to Just Bikes readers. You won't see the Pitster Pro 125 X3R in GT's advert in this issue, because it's a brand new model that has only just come onto the Australian market.
A quick look through the spec sheet reveals this is no 'toy' bike. The Pitster Pro caters to the increasingly professional competition pitbike market. The first giveaway is the engine - the Pitster Pro packs a torquey 13hp, 125cc 4 stroke that's fed by a 24mm carby, this combo offering low down grunt as well as a snappy top speed. Power is transmitted through a strong, 5 plate clutch to a 4 speed transmission that makes it ideal for race use. A CNC oil cooler positioned under the headstem ensures the Pitster Pro will keep its cool over the full race distance, too. The twin-spar polished alloy frame that houses the 125cc engine is a quality unit - a refreshing change for these type of bikes - that same quality found in the tuff rear shock and USD front forks.
The former is a fully adjustable (compression & dampening) coil over unit with a 12mm spine and external reservoir. The billet swingarm is well designed and strong enough to handle both the rough stuff and a decent amount of air (see left)! Wave discs front and rear provide plenty of stopping power for a bike that weighs a mere 60kg dry. Depending on what you're planning to use this baby for, the bike can be ordered with 10" rear and 12" front wheels. 12" / 12" and 12" / 14" wheel combos are also available.
The Pitster Pro boasts a number of neat-looking billet pieces (hubs, levers and shifters, as well as the aforementioned swingarm), plus anodised aluminium bling bits (fuel cap, exhaust tip, etc.) and CRF-style plastics (in either black or white), so it certainly looks the part, too! If you're planning to do more than just blast around the paddocks, the Pitster Pro 125 X3R is definitely worth a closer look. The RRP of $3,590 may appear pricey, but factor in the Pitster Pro's quality components and durability and it represents a good buy. If you're after a serious offroad machine that's a hell of a lot of fun to ride, too, this is it!
Test reports we've seen confirm the Pitster Pro can handle just about any amount of abuse you're likely to dish up. But if something does go wrong, importers GT Motorcycles offer the security of a conditional warranty.
