The frame has been designed for urban use. It is a single tube frame with elements in pressed high resistance steel. The suspension uses a telescopic fork with 30 mm shafts. At the rear the engine functions as an oscillating fork with a dual effect hydraulic shock absorber and coil spring. Braking is by a large 175 mm front disc and a rear 100 mm drum. The Zip 50 four stroke is powered by the Piaggio Hi-Per4 (4-stroke High Performance Ecological Engine Range).
It has a single overhead camshaft and two air-cooled valves. This engine provides performance that is comparable in every way with two-stroke engines, while complying fully with the latest Euro 2 emissions standards. Fuel economy is outstanding - 60 km on one litre of petrol, or 435 km on a full tank.
