Peugeot scooter range arrives
Following their presentation at last year’s MotoExpo Melbourne, Peugeot scooters are now in Australia, with a range of styles and capacities to choose from.
Roll out of the five-model lineup started in June, with the rest of the range set to be in Peugeot Motocycle dealerships by the time you read this.
Despite the ‘Peugeot’ name, you won’t find these scooters in Peugeot automotive showrooms, but they can be had at motorcycle and scooter retailers. The current dealer network is as follows:
VIC – Mid Life Cycles, Cremorne.
NSW – Scooter World, Redfern
NSW – Town & Country M/C, Thornton
SA – Motorcycle Revolution, Melrose Park
WA – Motomax, Osborne Park
TAS – Tasmanian M/C Warehouse, Prospect
QLD – Teammoto Euro Springwood, Slacks Creek
NT – NT Powersports, Coolalinga
The lineup covers a range of needs, from short hops in the inner city to serious touring, but the bulk of the Peugeot scooter family is designed for urban commuting.
From the 50cc 2-stroke Kisbee, the range rises through the compact 125cc Tweet and 169cc Bellville. For retro scooter fans, there’s the 150cc Django, while longer rides are the domain of the big Metropolis 400cc three-wheeler.
There’s a model to suit any budget, too, with ride away pricing starting at under $2,500 and rising to $14,790.
The range rundown is as follows:
Peugeot Kisbee – 50cc
The ‘urban commuter’ label for the Kisbee is spot on. This compact, modern scooter weighs only 90kg dry, so will be easy to manoeuvre into the tightest inner city places, but still has room under the seat for a full-face helmet.
The 50cc air-cooled 2-stroke single producing 3kW has been redesigned for this generation and is matched to a fully automatic transmission. The Kisbee also features 12-inch wheels, a 170mm disc front brake, a comfortable 775mm seat height, bag hook and two helmet hooks.
Available colours include grey, white and black, plus a special ‘Black Edition’ finished in “matte satin” black.
Ride away pricing is $2,690, with the Black Edition available for $2,990 ride away
Peugeot Tweet – 125cc
Almost as slim, light and compact as the Kisbee, the Tweet features a bigger 125cc 4-stroke engine, as well as 33mm forks and larger 16-inch wheels for more relaxed road manners.
Likely to be a popular choice with urban meal delivery riders, the Tweet’s 125cc 4-stroke engine produces 7.5kW and is described as “torquey, responsive and economical”.
Other features include a CVT transmission, disc brakes at each end, underseat helmet storage, a low-set fuel tank, 800m seat height and an immobiliser security switch.
Available colours include Satin Iron Grey, Antarctic White and Jet Black.
Introductory ride away pricing for the Tweet is $3,990.
Peugeot Belville RS – 169cc
The ‘everyman’ model in the new Peugeot scooter range, the Belville has the size, performance and capabilities to suit a number of roles. There’s also a ‘Belville 200 RS’ version that adds sports styling.
The new ‘EasyMotion 200i’ air-cooled 169cc powerplant in the Belville offers 8.3kW, as well as reduced noise and CO2 emissions, while the upgraded spec level on this model is evidenced in its high-quality fit and finish, as well as the dual disc brakes and standard ABS.
Other spec features include 16-inch wheels (in a different design to the Tweet), immobiliser security switch, LED lighting, underseat storage for a full face helmet and a 790mm seat height.
Available colours include Antarctic White and Jet Black for the standard Belville, while the Belville RS is finished in an exclusive Onyx Grey Matte with red accents.
Belville ride away pricing is $5,490.
Peugeot Metropolis – 400cc
Peugeot’s take on the three-wheel Piaggio MP3, the Metropolis has been around since 2013, but is only now making its Australian debut.
As you could imagine, the dual front wheels make the Metropolis incredibly stable, while the greater tyre contact patch improves handling. The parallelogram-style front end (Peugeot call it DTW – Dual Tilting Wheels) allows each wheel to tilt independently, but they can be locked together electrically at low speeds.
Powered by a 400cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine using the latest version of Peugeot’s LFE ‘Low Impact Engine’ technology, the Metropolis produces 26.2kW and 38.1Nm, driving the rear wheel through a fully automatic transmission and with a top speed close to 150km/h.
The RS version of the Metropolis released here includes disc brakes front and rear, ABS, LED lighting, DRLs, an electric parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring, smart key, a 12V socket and ‘aspheric’ mirrors that claim to eliminate blind spots.
Helmet storage is actually at the rear on this model, in a ‘boot’ under the pillion seat, with extra storage space under the rider’s seat and pockets in the leg shield.
The Metropolis RS is available in grey only.
Ride away pricing is $14,790.
Peugeot Django – 150cc
The Django is available in three flavours – Evasion, Allure and Sport. Of the trio, the Evasion has the most obvious retro styling, while the Allure is pitched as a luxury model and the Sport presents a more contemporary look.
A 150cc air-cooled 4-stroke single producing 8.3kW and a top speed over 100km/h, matched to an auto transmission is the common drivetrain for all three variants.
ABS braking, 12-inch wheels, LED lighting, underseat helmet storage, dual lockable front gloveboxes, a 12V socket, funky semi-digital dash and 770mm seat height are also common to each version.
Django Evasion styling is defined by white wheels and whitewall tyres, chrome trim on the mirrors, exhaust and bodywork, contrast piping on the dual seat and a small windscreen. A choice of three colours – Dragon Red, Vitamin Orange and Deep Ocean Blue on the lower bodywork - is matched to white in each instance.
On the Allure, much of the chrome trim remains and the whitewalls carry over, but the wheels are in a brushed metal finish and the mirrors are body-coloured. The Allure’s two-tone Chocolate metallic paint scheme is accented with a biscuit saddle.
Finally, the Django Sport deletes the windscreen and features a ‘Mad Black’ colour scheme that extends from the wheels to the fork legs and saddle, as well as the bodywork.
Ride away pricing is $4,990 for the Evasion and Sport, with the Allure listing for $5,190 ride away.
