New Yamaha YZF-R15
YMA is excited to announce the arrival of the new 2020 YZF-R15 sportsbike at a ride away price of $4799 incl GST, with a choice of Racing Blue or Thunder Grey colour schemes.
This pocket rocket is the ideal entry point to Yamaha's legendary range of sportsbikes. Blending performance, reliability, and low running costs, the YZF-R15 has been designed to appeal to riders looking for a practical motorcycle for everyday riding with R-series trademark sharp looks.
For MY2020 the YZF-R15 is powered by an all-new 155cc liquid-cooled SOHC four-valve fuel-injected engine with Variable Value Actuation (VVA). The engine is housed in a new-design Deltabox frame and wrapped in updated bodywork inspired by Yamaha's top-of-the-range YZF-R1/M road bikes and YZR-M1 MotoGP machine.New Yamaha YZF-R15
VVA Engine
The high-compression 155cc single-cylinder engine delivers class-leading performance thanks to the new Variable Value Actuation (VVA) system. The technology allows the small-capacity engine to produce more power and torque than ever before.
The cylinder head features two intake valve cams; one for low to mid-range rpm and another for high rpm. The switch between the two rocker arms is carried out by a solenoid motor activated at a predetermined point in the rev-range. The result is high RPM performance without sacrificing low-to-mid-range torque and rideability, delivering an 18.3 percent increase in power from just a three percent increase in engine capacity.
The engine also features a lightweight forged aluminium piston with DiASil coated cylinder wall, larger diameter intake and exhaust ports, upgraded fuelling, a 60 percent larger air filter, assist and slipper clutch, and a new muffler with a three-stage expansion chamber. In addition to the extra power produced, the new engine is also more economical on fuel, obtaining around 450km from a single tank.
New Deltabox Frame
A 20mm increase in width between the left and right pivot points on the updated Deltabox frame, now 221mm, has allowed the fitment of a new delta-shaped swingarm, reinforced by internal ribbing, to accommodate a wider 140/70-17 rear tyre.
Wider wheels and larger brakes
Wider 10-spoke cast aluminium wheels - 17x2.5-inch (f) 17x4-inch (r) allow a larger range of tyres to be fitted. Tyre sizes are 100/80-17 front 140/70-17 rear.
Braking performance has been increased with a new 282mm front brake disc that is 15mm larger, fitted with a twin-piston caliper. At the rear is a 220mm disc with a single-piston caliper.
Race-inspired styling
Slim twin-eye LED headlights have a glaring eyes look, modelled on the YZF-R1, while the cockpit features a YZR-M1-inspired triple clamp and a multi-function LCD instrument panel.
The racing-inspired bodywork is now more aerodynamic, featuring a central air intake and layered fairings. An indentation in the top of the fuel tank optimises the rider's tuck position.
Fuel capacity has been reduced by 1-litre to 11-litres, however, fuel economy has been increased with around 450km obtainable from a single tank of petrol.
The tail fairing with LED taillight has also been modelled on the latest YZF-R1 and features a 20mm lower pillion seat.
