New name, new riders for Tech3 MotoGP team in 2025
Red Bull GasGas Tech3, the KTM satellite team, will have a new look in more ways than one next year. After two seasons with GasGas livery and colours, the team will be re-branded as Red Bull KTM Tech3 and return to running KTM orange in 2025. Tech3 will also welcome two new riders in Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini, both of whom recently lost their seats with the Aprilia and Ducati factory teams.
The experienced pair’s transition to Tech3 means incumbents Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez are out. Of the two, Acosta has clearly been the better rider this year, with multiple podium finishes, while the best result for Fernandez in the first seven rounds has been 11th at Portimao. Before Tech3’s announcement, Acosta had already secured a seat with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing for next year, but Fernandez has yet to lock in a ride for 2025 at time of writing.
“We’re very happy we could bring both Enea and Maverick into our MotoGP project and give them full factory backing and support to keep following their goals and to reach their maximum performance,” said Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsports Director. “It’s clear we are talking about two of the fastest riders in the world right now and it is a compliment that they trust us and the first-class operation we’ve created together with Red Bull KTM Tech3.”
The rebrand will see Tech3’s MotoGP team return to the KTM orange livery they wore from 2019 to 2022. Last year’s switch to GasGas branding and crimson red colours followed KTM’s acquisition of the Spanish off-road motorcycle brand and was intended to grow the profile of GasGas globally. Prior to 2019, Tech3 was Yamaha’s satellite team in the premier class for almost 20 years, with Monster Energy livery for a decade of that period.
“It is time to strengthen the KTM name again and we couldn’t think of a better way to bring this kind of value to the company than for Enea and Maverick to go full Red Bull orange,” Beirer added. “Let’s push on for the rest of 2024 now and then look forward to this new start for next year.”
