Chad Reed to ride in WSX Supercross series
SX Global, the Australian company that secured the rights earlier this year to promote the FIM Supercross World Championship, has announced Chad Reed as their latest big name signing, with the famous Aussie rider coming out of retirement to contest the new-look ‘WSX’ (World Supercross) Championship series.
Already a dual FIM World Supercross Champion, Reed will join other big names, like Ken Roczen, Eli Tomac, Justin Brayton, Cole Seely and Dean Wilson in the 2022 WSX Championship that gets underway in the UK on 8 October, with the Australian round to be held at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on 21-22 October.
Reed, who retired from MX and SX competition in 2020, will ride for the successful US supercross squad MDK Motorsports.
"After two years of retirement, I have a new perspective on racing at the highest level. I am beyond excited to get back on the bike, into the athletic mindset and ready to compete to win in October," said Reed.
"The WSX Championship going global is the biggest thing to happen to supercross in its history and I’m looking forward to joining Mark Kvamme and the MDK team. They possess the technical expertise, resources, and passion I need behind me to be successful.”
On the Australian round, which was announced on the same day as his signing, Reed added: "I haven’t raced in Melbourne since 2019, so it’ll be an unbelievable experience to get back there in October and go up against the best current riders in the world. It’s going to be an epic experience competing for an FIM-sanctioned world championship."
Ten teams and 40 riders will make up the inaugural WSX field, with Australia represented not only by Chad Reed, but also Craig Dack Racing Yamaha (CDR). Dack, the head of the most successful team in Australian motocross and supercross history, was also pivotal in the early part of Reed’s career, including overseeing his first season in the AMA SX East Coast Championship in the USA..
