Everyone should own a Harley-Davidson once in their life, right? Finances and circumstances don’t always make it possible, though. But what if you could pick up a Harley for just $100? That’s the offer from the Barooga Promotional Group Inc., who are offering a 2020-model Harley-Davidson Fat Boy in a raffle to raise funds for the Barooga Rodeo.
Supplied by Phil’s Garage Harley-Davidson and valued at almost $34,000, it’s a hell of a lot of bike to be won for just $100!
About Barooga Rodeo
Due to COVID-19, public events up and down the country have been in limbo for close to a year. Rodeos haven’t been spared and the Barooga Rodeo, held at Easter in Barooga on the New South Wales Riverina, was one of the early casualties when the COVID lockdowns, border closures and public gathering limits came into effect last March.
Last year’s Barooga Rodeo would have been the fourth showcase of bull riding and steer roping held by a dedicated team of locals led by Dean Miller. In those few short years, the rodeo has grown in popularity, with the 2019 event attracting over 100 competitors and more than 2,000 spectators.
Beyond ticket sales at the gate, the event has relied on sponsorship from local businesses, but Dean and his team wanted to take the Barooga Rodeo to the next level, so back in 2019, they organised a major raffle to fund that expansion.
Unfortunately, COVID put a line through the 2020 and 2021 Barooga Rodeo, but the good news is that the raffle is still on.
Thanks, Phil
When looking for the “right” prize to offer for the raffle, the Barooga Rodeo organisers did plenty of research, eventually deciding on a new Harley-Davidson.
“Pretty much every guy wants a Harley,” Dean explained. “And plenty of girls, too!”
As the Barooga Rodeo is fuelled by local support, it made sense to go local when looking for a bike to raffle. That led Dean to Phil’s Garage Harley-Davidson.
Located in Lavington (a couple of kms north of Albury), Phil’s Garage is the only authorised Harley-Davidson dealer in the NSW Riverina and North East Victoria
Being an independent dealer, Phil’s Garage understands the value of customer service, as well as supporting events and initiatives in the region, so they were more than happy to help by supplying a bike – and more.
“Phil and Leeanne Smart, and the rest of the Phil’s Garage team have been fantastic to deal with,” Dean recalled. “They’ve done this sort of thing before, so they knew exactly what was involved. They suggested the bike we should offer and even helped us out with ideas on how we could promote the raffle.”
The bike being raffled is a 2020-model Fat Boy with the Milwaukee-Eight 114 v-twin.
Fat Power, Fat Style
An iconic model within Harley-Davidson’s Softail lineup since its launch in 1990, the Fat Boy’s impact and influence went way beyond the motorcycle market after it appeared in 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The original Fat Boy was powered by Harley’s 80 cubic inch Evolution v-twin, then the Twin Cam, followed by the Milwaukee-Eight in 2018. That engine was initially offered in both 107 cubic inch (1746cc) and 114 cubic inch (1868cc) form, but this year, the big 114 cube version - with smooth, responsive power delivery and 155Nm of torque at 3,250rpm - has become standard.
While it has evolved and improved over the past thirty years, the Fat Boy’s styling has remained true to those 1990 origins, with features like the solid disc wheels, low-profile front mudguard, large headlight and 2-into-2 shotgun exhaust still a part of the bike’s aesthetics today.
A winner for Harley out of the gate, the Fat Boy remains one of their most popular models to this day, so it was a smart choice for the Barooga Rodeo raffle.
Flexible Phil
While the bike being raffled is a 2020 Fat Boy, the crew at Phil’s Garage understand that model may not be to everyone’s taste, so they’ll accommodate the winner with a model of their preference to the same $33,995 value. Choose a cheaper model and Phil’s Garage will provide parts, accessories or merchandise up to the raffle bike’s value. Choose a more expensive model and the raffle winner pays the balance.
