BMW sets new sales record
After setting an all-time record in 2023 with 209,757 sales, BMW Motorrad broke that record in 2024, selling 210,408 motorcycles worldwide. While all models in BMW Motorrad’s portfolio contributed to the best result in their 102-year history, the standouts were once again the GS models, led by the R 1300 GS and R 1250 GS.
Europe was BMW’s strongest region in 2024, with 118,727 sales, of which the “home market” of Germany accounted for 26,117 units - an improvement of 8 per cent on 2023. France was the next best European market, with 20,693 sales, while 11,411 sales in Central Europe last year was a 12 per cent increase on 2023’s result.
In the USA, BMW sold 17,272 new motorcycles, 15,267 in Brazil, 13,872 in China and 8,301 in India. Australian BMW sales totalled 3,549 last year, which was a new record for BMW Motorrad locally.
In terms of model families, the big GS bikes (R 1250 GS, R 1300 GS and derivatives) recorded more than 68,000 sales in 2024, while the renewed F-Series models saw 40,890 sales. BMW’s four-cylinder sports bikes that include the S 1000 RR and M 1000 RR reached 27,147 sales. The Urban Mobility range that includes the C 400 scooters and CE electric models sold more than 20,000 units, with more than 22,000 sales from the small capacity G 310 range.
No numbers were provided for the Heritage models that include the R 12 and R 18, nor the modern K-Series tourers, but subtracting the above numbers from the overall total suggests these segments combined to deliver around 30,000 sales last year.
“With the strongest sales result in company history, BMW Motorrad claims 1st place in the global Premium Motorcycle segment,” said Markus Flasch, head of BMW Motorrad. “Our market leadership in numerous segments and markets in based on our claim to innovation leadership, our highly attractive product offering, as well as the consistent strategic focus on brand strength.
“Based on these success drivers, BMW Motorrad is well positioned for the future and I approach 2025 with a very positive outlook.”
