Bimota announces new ownership
The pair are both new to the motorcycle industry, having made their money in real-estate and construction, but have been described as real bike enthusiasts, and were reportedly keen to purchase the financially struggling company as soon as they found that incumbent owner, Roberto Comini, was looking to sell. The actual price Comini sold Bimota for has not been announced.
In terms of the future for Bimota, both Longoni and Chiacianesi are hopeful of not only stabilising the brand, but also of growing the product lineup, with the upcoming release of a BMW-powered model and exciting new supercharged model reportedly still on track. Production will, for the foreseeable future, remain at Rimini in San Marino.
Australian and New Zealand Bimota distributor, Urban Moto Imports, is excited by the news that the exclusive motorcycle manufacturer has secured an even more exciting future thanks to the new owner and its plans for the brand.
According to Joseph Elasmar, CEO of Urban Moto Imports, the entry of the new owner has been months in the making and couldn't have come at a better time, as the capital injection will help keep Bimota at the forefront of technology with the imminent release of one of the most advanced hand-made superbikes in the world in 2014.
"It is business as usual at UMI with shipments including the new Bimota DB8 OroNero, expected to arrive in Australia next week," Elasmar said. "Preparations are also well in hand for our annual expo of Bimota models at the upcoming MotoGP at Phillip Island in mid-October."
