3-Day Vintage Enduro is back for 2021
After last year’s last year’s Australian Three-Day Vintage Enduro (A3VE) was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event is back on for 2021. Run by the Vintage Enduro Riders Inc. (VERi), the second A3VE is scheduled for 6-9 May in Victoria.
The first A3VE saw almost 100 entrants take pre-1988 dirt bikes through all manner of challenging terrain, covering almost 400km over the three days. The 2021 A3VE will run to a similar format, using many of the same routes through the Wombat Forest and private properties in Blackwood (25km northwest of Bacchus Marsh) that were used in 2019.
Entrants will cover around 150km each day, made up of two or three circuits of different 50–60km trail loops, plus Enduro and Cross Country special tests. Blackwood Recreation Reserve will serve as parc ferme and the start/finish point for each day’s tests, with the final moto test held at Mere Farm in nearby Trentham.
Adjustments and additions to the vinduro categories originally planned for 2020 will roll over to the 2021 A3VE, including the V1 (Pioneer) class accepting certain 1976-model bikes (previously pre-1976 only) and the V1/V2/V3/V4 classes limited to riders aged 40 and older. Riders under 40 will have their own ‘VU’ class, accepting all V1-V4 bikes. There’s also a ‘VW’ Women’s class that’s open to all female riders, regardless of age, on pre-1988 bikes.
The VW, VU, V4, V3, V2 and V1 classes, along with outright positions, will be scored on accumulated times, calculated using the bonus/handicap system. This system combines rider and bike age, favouring older riders on older machinery.
For a more leisurely three-day, there’s a new Rally ‘VR’ class, which is a touring-style category for licensed riders on registered (rec or full) pre-’88 trail bikes, providing an enduro experience without the pressure of timed special tests.
Entry fees are $350.00 per rider for competitive classes and $160.00 for the Rally class. Entries close on 17 April, 2021, but enter before 14 April and you’ll get a $50.00 discount (one-event licences, unreg’d vehicle and transponder hire extra – see verivinduro.com.au for all fees).
To ensure the 2021 A3VE is run as safely as possible, VERi are liaising with Motorcycling Australia and have appointed a COVID-safe officer. The event remains subject to state and federal COVID-19 guidelines. Should a cancellation occur, all registered competitors will have their entry fee refunded.
