2023 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 arrives
The 2023 version of Suzuki’s GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R have arrived, and while the only changes for the new model year are new colours, both models will be available with special ride away pricing.
While the GSX-R1000 and its tweaked GSX-R1000R sibling haven't had a major update in the past five years, they remain at the pinnacle of Suzuki’s sportsbike lineup.
Both variants use the same twin-spar aluminium frame that, in its most recent update, was narrowed by 20mm and lightened by ten per cent.
Both variants also use by the same 999.3cc DOHC inline four, and while the current version of this liquid-cooled engine is the powerful and technologically advanced ever built, it’s unchanged from the previous model year.
Listed maximums, applicable to both GSX-R1000 variants, are 148.6kW at 13,200rpm and 117.6Nm at 10,800rpm, channelled to the six-speed transmission through a bi-directional quickshifter. The shift linkage can also be set to ‘reverse-pattern’ for GP-style shifting.
Electronics, operating through a six-axis IMU, include cornering ABS and a Motion Track Brake System that minimises rear-wheel lift under hard braking.
There’s also ten-level traction control and a three-mode Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) that allows riders to tailor power delivery and engine response to their preference.
On top of these features that are common to both GSX-R1000 variants, the GSX-R1000R adds launch control and ‘auto-blipper’ shift assist, as well as an adjustable swingarm pivot point, braided front brake lines, LED position lights, a lightweight battery and a unique black LCD instrument panel.
While the GSX-R1000 is fitted with a fully adjustable Showa Big Piston Fork and link-type Showa rear shock, the GSX-R1000R upgrades this to Showa’s BFF (Balance Free Front) fork and BFRC (Balance Free Rear Cushion Lite) rear shock, which are also fully adjustable.
The MY23 GSX-R1000 is available in Metallic Matt Black/Glass Sparkle Black for a ride away price of $24,990, with the MY23 GSX-R1000R in MotoGP-inspired Metallic Triton Blue/Metallic Mystic Silver for $27,990 ride away.
Ride away pricing include 12 months’ registration and Suzuki’s three-year unlimited-kilometre warranty.
