2021 GAS GAS mini bike range – MC 85
For junior riders who have outgrown 50cc and 65cc bikes, the newly-arrived Gas Gas brand have released the 85cc ‘MC 85’ as the premium model in their mini bike range.
The “top rung” of Gas Gas’s mini bike range, the MC 85 prepares juniors for the transition to the larger MC 125 two-stroke and MC250F four-stroke.
At an estimated 15.5kW (21hp) output, the MC 85’s 84.9cc two-stroke single offers a logical step up from the smaller MC 65 and while it’s definitely more of a race bike, the MC 85 doesn’t sacrifice the fun, says Gas Gas.
A power valve system ensures smooth power across the rev range, with the cylinder adjusted to suit, resulting in what’s said to be better mid-range performance.
To reduce weight, the engine’s crankcases have been cast using a special process, while the compact design and the engine’s position at the bike’s centre of gravity delivers what Gas Gas says are seriously impressive handling characteristics.
The MC 85 runs a six-speed transmission and easy-to-use hydraulic clutch, with gear ratios adjusted to suit the weight and power,
The frame features optimized flex characteristics, while the fully adjustable WP XACT 43mm front forks are in the “split air” style with air in the left leg and oil damping in the right. The rear WP XACT monoshock offers full preload, compression and rebound adjustability. Travel is 280mm front and 305mm rear.
A ‘big wheel’ set-up of a 19-inch front and 16-inch rear rim is standard, along with 240mm front and 220mm rear brake discs with floating calipers.
Tool-less air filter removal, ‘no dirt’ footpegs, a gripper seat cover and model-specific plastics are other features of the MC 85, while a 5.2-litre fuel tank, 875mm seat height and 68kg dry weight are the essential measures on this model.
RRP pricing for the 2021 Gas Gas MC 85 is $8,090.
