2021 GAS GAS mini bike range – Introduction
Gas Gas, the Spanish trials and dirt bike brand that’s been revitalized under KTM ownership, has a range of mini bikes to suit kids aged from 4 to 15.
While trying to get adults on their full-sized MX and enduro bikes, Gas Gas are also making a pitch to get youngsters onto their mini bikes, so have released the ‘MC’ range, covering three two-stroke singles and an electric model, which is just the thing for youngsters to use without annoying the neighbours.
Affordable Fun
Gas Gas say the MC mini bike range, like their adult-sized MXers and enduro models, are all about having fun in the dirt, while at the same time offering “no-nonsense performance” on machinery that’s “built to excite and encourage youngsters to develop new skills”.
The Gas Gas PR bandies around words like ‘Daring,’ ‘Vibrant,’ ‘Capable,’ and ‘Inviting’ when describing their machinery, most of which are de-spec’d versions of similar KTM models, but perhaps ‘Price’ should also be included in that list.
The Gas Gas mini range starts at $5,055 and stretches to $8,290, which is more expensive than Japanese equivalents, but cheaper than comparable KTMs. For example, the Gas Gas MC 50 lists at $5,055, while the equivalent KTM 50 SX is priced from $5,460 for the standard MY21 version. It’s not a huge difference, but every bit counts.
Shared Spec and Tech
A double cradle chromoly steel frame is common to all four Gas Gas minis, with the smallest MC 50 also running a steel subframe, while the larger two-strokes use aluminium and the electric model features a fibreglass subframe.
Despite the steel frames, each model is relatively light, starting at 41.5kg for the MC 50 and rising to 68kg for the MC 85.
Other shared componentry includes kick starting and liquid cooling for all the two-strokes and a six-speed gearbox on both of the larger two-strokes. Tapered aluminium handlebars, WP XACT suspension at each end and disc brakes are common across the range.
An identifying red frame, red seat and plastics are common to all the MC models, along with bold Gas Gas branding that uses in-mould technology for longer life. As a slight point of visual difference, the MC-E 5 electric model adds a bit of white to the plastics.
