2009 Gold Coast Motorcycle Rally
There have been a number of major changes to the standard and diversity of the event with the aim of attracting a far wider range of attendees. This year, the Gold Coast Rally features three days of new motorcycle and scooter displays; test rides; schools competitions; and a number of sand events involving vintage motorcycle beach racing, Fast 50 motor cross, mower racing & BMX bikes.
A new coordinator, Chris Sweeney, has been appointed to fill the position vacated by former owner of the event, Dave "Maverick" Leden. Chris has had vast experience running State and National HOG rallies and HOG Touring Rides. A slight name change has also been instigated to show the new focus the event takes entering its next decade. The major changes to the program have been to move events held early in the week (i.e. Tues, Wed & Thurs) off-site and utilize quality venues in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. On-site activities will be held during the day on Fri, Sat and Sun. There will be no night activities held on-site at Carrara.
AMD Championship
The Australian round of 'World & European Championship of Custom Bike Building' will be held at the 2009 Rally. The winner and his bike will win entry and payment of return travel costs to compete in the finals at Sturgis, USA. The current AMD competition attracts an audience of nearly 1 billion! It is planned to stream the 2009 event at Carrara live on the internet to the huge worldwide audience. Event HQ is the Broadbeach Sofitel Hotel where a number of events will be held, including the Biker Ball, Ride-In Bike Show, Women in Motorcycling brunch.
