Honda VF400F Classic Motorcycle – LAMS Approved This 1983 classic Honda VF400F is as good as you will get outside a motorcycle museum. It has a very low genuine 5,809km on the clock, has been well maintained and everything is in original condition. The original owner did about 2,500km and then had it in storage for more than 30 years. There are a few small cosmetic imperfections that I will point out on inspection, but it will not disappoint any Honda sports bike enthusiast. The V4 engine 400cc (actual 399cc) engine is rated at 55BHP and redlines at 12,500 RPM. It has a 6 speed easy shifting gearbox and light action hydraulic clutch. It has some innovate features for the era, including air assisted front and rear suspension, ventilated in-board disc brakes front and rear, and Honda’s TRAC system (Torque Reactive Anti-dive Control) relevant to the front forks on the bike.
It comes with the original owners-manual, 2 keys, centre stand and side stand. It’s obvious to see it’s had very limited use, the tank and guard paint is like new, the speedo facia is un-faded, the keys are not worn, the side cases are not marked, and the list goes on.
About 5 years ago the following items were replaced only due to the rubber components perishing as would be expected after 35 years or so. Fork seals, brakes master cylinder and caliper seals, brake pads and brake hoses, new spark plugs, front and rear tyres (still have the manufacturing tips), battery, air filter, oil filters and engine oil. The carburetors have been stripped and cleaned for old fuel residue, and since this time the engine has always been idled to empty the carby’s after a ride.
There are absolutely no issues with this motorcycle, it starts, runs, rides and handles with no issues. It’s a light, easy handling, smooth shifting classic sports motorcycle that was ahead of its time. In fact, it handles and rides comparable to a modern motorcycle, and will equally suit the weekend cruiser, a daily commuter or a classic motorcycle collector.
The asking price is unregistered, and I will assist an interstate buyer with organising transportation if required. If you’d like it registered, I’ll do 12 months single seat Queensland rego (including RWC Safety Certificate) for an additional $500.
