‘Bundy’ retires
The only dog in Australia with a ministerial declaration to legally ride on a road bike, Bundy has travelled the length and breadth of Australia and is also the world’s fastest motorcycling dog, having reached 283km/h on Tex’s Hayabusa at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Together, Tex & Bundy have spent more than a decade on the road, covering more than a million kilometres and raising over $6 million for various charities, particularly men’s health and mental health charities. Bundy’s been a pillion with Tex pretty much since she was a pup, but at 13 years of age (91 in dog years) she’s now officially retired, giving up her seat to ‘Rebel’.
Another stumpy-tailed Australian Cattle Dog, 2-year-old Rebel has been training with Tex – with assistance from Bundy! - getting used to the noise of the bike and the road, as well as riding “pillion” on the tank of Tex’s current bike; a Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX. Rebel has also been learning to obey commands both on and off the bike, undergoing behavioural training to be safe with people as a qualified assistance dog.
In her first official role, Rebel is joining Tex and Bundy in raising money for the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation (POWHF), particularly those who are in hospital with motorcycle-related injuries. All funds raised go directly towards the hospital’s therapy dog program.
Bundy is an ambassador of the Prince of Wales Hospital Delta Therapy Program, which uses therapy dogs to bring psychological and physiological benefits to patients by providing an ear to listen, paw to shake and smile to brighten up their day.
Tex, Bundy and Rebel aim to raise $10,000 for the POWHF, which would allow the number of hospital visits by therapy dogs to increase. At time of writing, more than $2,500 had been raised.
