Triumph Street Triple
Across the board changes for 2008 are mainly cosmetic, with the exception of the Speed Triple, which gets a host of new gear, while the Speed Master and America gain larger fuel tanks.
The Street Triple is a different story. With the performance of the Daytona 675 and the streetfighter styling of the Speed Triple, Triumph have created a rebel with plenty of cause - lean, light, agile and dripping with attitude.
Packing a powerful punch of 108PS peak power (106bhp) delivered at 11,700rpm, the Street Triple sits at the top of the naked middleweight category, and with 69Nm of torque arriving at 9,100rpm, the bike is guaranteed to out-perform all of its middleweight competitors and quite a few of the heavyweights too. The proven 675cc water-cooled three-cylinder 12-valve engine delivers strong low and mid-range performance, from tickover to the redline. The close ratio six-speed gearbox maximises the effectiveness of the engine's impressive power and torque. One of the best things about the bike's performance is that you don't have to work hard to get it: the Street Triple produces more than 60Nm of torque from 3,500rpm right through to 12,300rpm.
The Street Triple's aluminium frame comes directly from the Daytona and was specifically designed to take advantage of the narrow three-cylinder engine design. Rake is set at 24.3, with 95.3mm (3.75in) trail. Wheelbase is 1395mm (54.9in), whilst dry weight is 167kg.
Braking power is at the top of its class thanks to Nissin two pot sliding calipers with sintered pads (as used on the Daytona 675). Lightweight five-spoked wheels come from the Daytona, too; 17 x 3.5" fronts and 17 x 5.5" rears. Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier tyres are fitted as standard (120/70 ZR 17 front and 180/55 ZR 17 rear). Approved tyre options are the Pirelli SuperCorsa Pro and the Bridgestone BT014 G.
