Triumph America. March 2007
Spinning a fat 170/80 section rear tyre (crowning a new for 2007 cast and meaty 15-inch rim) through a five-speed gearbox, the engine fires its heartbeat out through a pair of deep chrome reverse cone silencers. Heavy duty, wide set telescopic forks add substance and a solid look to the America's raked front end, as does the new 18-inch cast front wheel, shod with its 110/90 tyre. Disc brakes front and rear matched to twin-piston calipers take care of the stopping duties.
The America's a great place to embark upon a motorcycling career, but as a true cruising motorcycle it's also built to cover ground. Pillions get a supremely comfortable ride as the 2007 America has a much larger pillion seat and the bike's relaxed riding position, with forward set pegs, wide raked back handlebars and low 28-inch seat height aids rider comfort and control.
These attributes also make the America extremely manageable in all situations - especially for riders with limited experience. Even those with many miles under their belts, however, will be impressed with the chassis' sure-footed ability and confidence inspiring handling.
The America's also been made to be admired and from its slab style top yoke to chromed shock absorbers the America is the very essence of cruiser chic - but with something a little different; a sense of style, heritage and 'Britishness' very much its own. This bike rises clear of the clone-like mass of everyday cruisers.
Centrally mounted above the teardrop shaped 16.6 litres fuel tank is a deep-chromed instrument console matching classic style Triumph tank badges.
A white-faced chrome bezelled speedo sits rakishly above the single headlight and a myriad of new detail touches are worth noting on the 2007 America - items like the redesigned pillion footpeg hangers, as well as the revised, sleeker chain cover, polished fork legs and stylish upper fork shrouds.
Three brand new twin-colour options adorn the America: Phantom Black and Sunset Red with gold coach line, Phantom Black and Tornado Red with silver coach line and Pacific Blue and New England White with gold coach line. The new single-tone Phantom Black option, with its subtle gold metal flake, provides an understated and stylish alternative.
Cruising is all about the essence of freedom and individuality and the America provides both. It's also ready to further personalise, with the simple addition of luggage and extra chrome work. There are also entire custom painted body kits to mark out a personal identity.
