Simoncelli tribute bike sells for over $60,000
Presented to Marco Simoncelli's father, Paolo, in July, the distinctively decorated current model Fireblade attracted close to 200 bids and eventually made 50,110 Euros (approx. AU$62,285) - around four times the price of a stock 1000RR 'Blade.
Designed by Aldo Drudi, the man behind Valentino Rossi's helmets, the 'Super Sic' CBR featured Simoncelli's '58' race number prominently on the fairing, which was finished in the white with red stripe colours of the San Carlo Gresini Honda team.
Other touches on the bike include 'Super Sic' graphics on the 'screen, plus 'Sic Limited Edition' logo on the tank.
According to the Marco Simoncelli Foundation, the winning bidder will be personally presented with the tribute bike at November's EICMA motorcycle expo in Milan, Italy.
