Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 arrives
Following the opening of pre-orders in late April, Royal Enfield’s Shotgun 650 has arrived in Australia, reaching dealerships in mid-May. An all-new addition to the Royal Enfield range, the Shotgun 650 is powered by the same 648cc parallel twin as the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 and Super Meteor 650, but brings an all-new aesthetic.

While Royal Enfield don’t refer to the Shotgun 650 as a bobber, it clearly has elements of that genre, like the solo seat (795mm high) and shortened rear mudguard, in its styling. A reshaped fuel tank (13.8lt capacity) and side covers are further differences against Royal Enfield’s other 650s, while the headlight nacelle is unique to the model. Blackout wheels and an all-black engine treatment are standard.

Style aside, the Shotgun 650 is based closely in the Super Meteor 650 cruiser, using the same engine, gearbox and frame, as well as many of the same cycle parts. The parallel twin produces the same 34.6kW at 7250rpm and 52.3Nm at 5650rpm as the Super Meteor 650, while the six-speed transmission is also unchanged. Showa suspension is used front and rear, with an SF-BPF fork and twin shock rear (with five-step preload adjustment) offering 120mm and 90mm of travel, respectively. However, where the Super Meteor 650 runs a 19/16 wheel combination, the Shotgun 650 uses an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel, with tubeless tyres.

Braking is made up of a single 320mm front and 300mm rear disc, with two-piston calipers on each and dual-channel ABS. Head and tail lights are LED, while the combination analogue/LCD instrumentation includes the Tripper app-based navigation system as standard. Levers are adjustable and a USB port is included.
Customisation is encouraged, with more than 30 bolt-on accessories available, including a pillion seat and touring gear.

Colour options for the Shotgun 650 include Sheet Metal Grey, Plasma Blue, Green Drill and Stencil White. All bar the grey carry a small premium over the introductory ride away price of $11,590. This is backed by a three-year, unlimited km warranty with three years’ roadside assist. Like the rest of the Royal Enfield range, the Shotgun 650 is LAMS approved.
