REPORT – 2017 Throttle Roll
The Throttle Roll Street Party returned with a bang in 2017, with this year’s fifth annual event attracting 6,000 party goers who soaked up the atmosphere of Australia’s greatest celebration of motorcycles, live music and food. Held in Sydney’s bustling Inner West this past Easter, Throttle Roll was the only place to be to win a brand new custom Sol Invictus motorcycle, dance with the Easter Bunny and win a bunch of great prizes, all whilst celebrating Australia’s custom culture community. This year saw Industrie Clothing jump on board as title sponsor, in association with Yamaha Motor Australia, Royal Enfield, Scrambler Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Triumph Motorcycles, Sol Invictus, Zenith Watches, Sailor Jerry and Young Henrys to make the 2017 event the biggest and best yet.
Cruisin’ and Groovin’
The Throttle Roll Ride, a 200-strong cruise via the Royal National Park, kicked off the event, with the riders’ arrival back at the venue - bang on at the 12 Noon start time – seeing the street party rev up in fine style. The Hollerin’ Sluggers hit the stage first and set the scene for a brilliant day of live music from bands including The ReChords, Frank Sultana and the Sinister Kids, Mesa Cosa, Papa Pilko and the Bin Rats. Closing out the day, The Delta Riggs and Kingswood absolutely brought the house down with their performances.
Between sets, Limpin’ Jimmy and the Swingin’ Kitten, and the Slippery Trout DJs were pumping out the tunes and keeping the crowd dancing through the day and night.
Wall of Cool
As well as plenty to listen to, there was plenty to see, with the stunning custom motorcycles on display upon the famous wall of scaffolding, as well as displays from a number of manufacturers showcasing their latest range of lifestyle motorcycles and merchandise to an ever growing community of riders. If you weren’t a rider when you arrived, you were sure to become one when you left! The huge number of motorcycles parked in surrounding streets created a show outside of the show, too: something Throttle Roll is now renowned for and why the event attracts hoards of riders from Sydney and beyond to make the pilgrimage to the annual street party.
Chow Down
There was food and bevvies galore, thanks to a feast of tucker trucks from the likes of Mary’s Burgers, Bovine & Swine, InBocca Italian, Bloodwood, Lady Hampshire and The Fancy Banger. While those guys kept bellies full, cold ones from Young Henrys and Sailor Jerry kept the party flowing. Throttle Roll was a hit with families, too: the Easter Bunny handed out free chocolate eggs, while the free bucking bull provided plenty of entertainment, keeping the kids entertained whilst mum and dad worked out how to spend the school fund on new motorcycles for themselves!
International Roll
It’s a credit to the crew behind Throttle Roll that this Aussie invention has become such a success in such a short time – and is now spreading overseas. The team are proud to announce that Throttle Roll will be back in Sydney next year and, for the first time, will also be held in Los Angeles, USA. That’s very cool!
