Red Bull X Fighters in Sydney!
This year, the X Fighters World Tour has travelled to the UAE, Brazil, Italy, Spain and Poland. The final round in Sydney marks the first time the event has ever been staged in Australia. Ahead of the finale, a mere 40 points separate the current points leader Nate Adams (USA) and his great rival Dany Torres (ESP).
"I had a shoulder operation just a few days ago," said Adams ahead of the Australian round.
"But I'm nevertheless going out there to try to defend my title."
So far this season, Adams has jumped his way to three victories (Brasilia, Rome and Poznan), with a third place in the season opener in Dubai (UAE). The American missed Madrid due to a knee injury and then won two gold medals shortly thereafter at the X-Games. This season, Adams has been only beaten once in 11 head-to-head duels with Torres. If he wins in Sydney, it will be Adams' third straight X-Fighters title.
Torres has had an equally impressive season, even though he missed Brazil due to injury (six broken bones). Despite this, Torres kept his title hopes alive with victories in Dubai and Madrid.
"I've beaten Nate before, but I lost the duel against him in Poznan. The score is even this year 1-1," Torres commented.
"I'm concentrating on my runs and am not wasting any time thinking about the math or about the competition."
Current overall standings (after 5 of 6 rounds): 1. Nate Adams (365 points), 2. Dany Torres (325 points), 3. Andre Villa (270 points), 4. Blake Williams (AUS/215 points), 5. Eigo Sato (180 points), 6. Robbie Maddison (AUS)160 points.
