ProMX Championship announces 2022 calendar
Following a 2021 season in which only three rounds were completed due to COVID-19 lockdowns and border closures, the Penrite ProMX Championship presented by AMX Superstores has released its provisional calendar for 2022, which features a full eight rounds.
In a return to a mostly pre-COVID schedule, the 2022 ProMX Championship will visit four states, with the Thor MX1, Pirelli MX2 and Maxxis MX3 classes to be in action at all eight rounds, backed by a support class programme of Womens, Vets and Pre-95/Classic Evo Cup classes at selected rounds.
The 2022 season gets underway at Wonthaggi, Victoria, on 27 March, followed by Round 2 in Mackay on 10 April, where the ProMX Championship will share top billing with the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship. This joint venture had been planned for the 2021 season, but was at one of the rounds that were cancelled.
Round 3 sees a return to Victoria, with Wodonga to host on 1 May, then moves to South Australia for Round 4 at Gillman on 29 May. Maitland, NSW, will host Round 5 on 26 June before Coffs Harbour, an all-new venue on the ProMX calendar, hosts Round 6 on 24 July.
The series returns to Queensland for the final two rounds, with Qld Moto Park in Coulson the venue for Round 7 on 14 August, followed by Coolum on 20-21 August. While Coolum has traditionally been a double-header round, it will only host the ProMX ‘Grand Finale’ round next year.
“After the tremendous success of the inaugural ProMX Championship in 2021, Motorcycling Australia and the ProMX Management team are further committed to expanding on all areas of the Championship for the 2022 season,” said Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle.
“There has been significant investment in the ProMX Championship to help elevate the sport of Motocross in Australia. The new initiatives we were able to introduce, such as an international TV package and the addition of the Maxxis MX3 class to help the next generation of the sport chase their racing dreams, has seen great reception from the riders, fans and industry alike.”
