Knucklehead tops the bikes at Shannons Sydney auction
The 1947 EL Knucklehead had been restored but virtually unused since. Pre-auction estimate was $44 - $50,000, but the immaculate Harley soon sailed past this to reach an impressive final total of $65,000. Another early Harley, a 1938 U Model, sold for $25,500, while a rare '75 Aermacchi Harley SX350 sold for a bargain $2,600.
Good money was also received for a C1951 'Featherbed' Manx Norton, which made $35,000, while an increasingly desirable 1963 Royal Enfield Interceptor 750 sold for $18,000. A1962 Norton Model 50 sold for $11,000, while a C1950 Triumph GP replica made $10,000.
Italian scooters also sold well, as evidenced by the $8,750 achieved by a 1963 Lambretta Model D offered at No Reserve, while a 1962 Vespa GS160 MkI surprised everyone when it sold for $12,250.
