Just Bikes Bobber Build Off
The challenge took place live at the recent Australian Motorcycle Expo (AME) in front of an appreciative audience of bike enthusiasts.
Rising to the challenge, JUST BIKES brought together an expert crew from around Australia, especially for the event. The team included Destino Custom Garage, Steve May from Lizard Designs and DNA Custom Paint and Finishes, as well as the bike-obsessed crew from within JUST BIKES.
The bikes bobbed over the three days were a 2002 Kawasaki VN800, a 1995 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200, and a 2007 Yamaha XVS1100, using a brand new Yamaha kit which made its debut at the show. The timing was almost impossibly tight, with Destino Custom Garage's Jimmy B and JUST BIKES' Jimmy G working flat out to build a bike a day, with the support of the wider team and lots of audience encouragement. Each day was a race to finish as building continued long into the closing moments. What had seemed barely possible to begin with was made even more challenging due to the venue's OH&S restrictions on the use of power tools. For example, the crew resorted to cutting down rear struts by hand, using a hacksaw instead of an angle-grinder!
Renowned throughout the industry for his artistic talent, Steve May of Lizard Designs expertly painted all three bikes, and captivated onlookers with live pin-striping demonstrations during the AME event. Steve is a second generation painter and accomplished fine artist; you can view his work online at www.lizarddesigns.com.au.
All of the premium quality paint products were provided by DNA Custom Paint and Finishes. Owned and developed in Australia, DNA paints offer class-leading quality for an immaculate finish - for information on their range visit dna-paints.com.
Wish you could get your hands on one of the bikes built during the event? JUST BIKES has donated the gorgeous blue VN800 Kawasaki to Anam Cara House, where it will be raffled to support disadvantaged children. Tickets are available for $10, for more information visit www.anamcarahousegeelong.org.au and be in it to win it!
If you have a desire to build a bobber of your own, custom kits just like the ones we used can be purchased from the experts at www.destino.com.au.
Judging by the huge number of spectators who came past again and again to watch the builds and keep a close eye on progress, the Bobber Build Off was undoubtedly a starring attraction at this year's huge AME show. We'd like to thank the people who came along to watch and offer their support throughout the event. Of course, the Build Off would not have been possible without the commitment of many, including Jimmy B from Destino Custom Garage, Steve May from Lizard Designs, DNA Custom Paint and Finishes, and the entire JUST BIKES crew - a huge THANK YOU to you all for your involvement and hard work.
Stay tuned for more JUST BIKES Build-offs, this could be the start of something beautiful ...
