Jack Miller secures MotoGP ride for 2025
As this year’s MotoGP silly season played out, it was looking increasingly unlikely that Jack Miller would remain in the premier class beyond this year. With his seat at Red Bull KTM Factory Racing already allocated to Pedro Acosta for 2025, Miller next witnessed the two rides with KTM’s satellite Tech3 team go to Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini, closing off that option.
By early September, only one place on the 2025 grid remained – the second spot at Prima Pramac Racing. But on 19 September, Miller became the last piece in the MotoGP jigsaw puzzle for 2025 when it was announced the 29-year-old from Townsville had signed with Prima Pramac Racing.
Joining Miguel Oliveira at what will be a Yamaha factory-backed effort next year, Miller’s one-year deal reunites him with the Pramac team he had previously ridden for between 2018 and 2020. In his first stint at Pramac Racing before joining the factory Ducati squad, Miller achieved nine podiums, including three runner-up finishes in 2020.
Pramac’s impending switch from Ducati to Yamaha and their YZR-M1 means Miller will be on his fourth different bike in the premier class next year, having previously ridden Honda’s RC213V, Ducati’s Desmosedici GP and, most recently, KTM’s RC16. To date, the Aussie’s best results have been achieved on the Ducati – three wins and 21 podiums – although his first MotoGP victory came on a Honda.
"We are happy to announce that Jack is joining Prima Pramac Racing's line-up, and we warmly welcome him to the Yamaha MotoGP group,” said Lin Jarvis, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Racing.
“With 10 years of experience in the MotoGP class with three different manufacturers, Jack will be a valuable asset for Yamaha. His speed, knowledge, work ethic and team spirit will be invaluable to our project as we plan to improve the performance of the M1 in 2025 and beyond. "Yamaha will be supporting him in every way they can."
Paolo Campinoti, CEO of Pramac and Team Principal of Prima Pramac Racing, added: "It is a pleasure to welcome Jack back to the team. We supported his growth in MotoGP, and now it’s great to begin this new collaboration with Yamaha, counting on the support of a rider we know well.
“We wish Jack the best for the end of the season and are glad to welcome him back home in 2025."
Soon after the Pramac deal was confirmed, Miller revealed that, as recently as the British GP in August, he had no offers for 2025. Rumours of a move to Pramac came soon after, with speculation he may join Trackhouse Racing, or even switch to World Superbikes.
“It’s been a long story but awesome to finally have something [for 2025], because honestly, things looked bleak around the summer break time,” Miller said. “[I’m] extremely fortunate and extremely happy to be still on the grid next year.
“I feel like I have unfinished business in MotoGP and I'm extremely grateful to Paolo [Campinoti] and all the guys over at Yamaha for the opportunity to continue on.”
Of the switch to Yamaha’s YZR-M1 and the Iwata factory’s revitalised MotoGP project, Miller added: “We’ll see what the future holds for us both, but the feeling is awesome.
“To work with [Yamaha] is going to be a lot of fun, a lot of hard work, but they’ve got a great project already and it’s only going from strength to strength with the satellite team coming back on for 2025. It looks good.”
