Fermin Aldeguer to join Team Gresini Racing
While it was announced back in March that Moto2 rider Fermin Aldeguer would move to MotoGP in 2025, the team he’d do it with has only recently been confirmed. The 19-year-old from Spain will join Team Gresini Racing on a two-year deal, partnering Alex Marquez, who has already extended his tenure with the Ducati satellite team for another two seasons.
“I’m extremely happy to be joining the Gresini family; this is an incredible opportunity to make my MotoGP debut with the best bike on the grid and with a fantastic team that has had plenty of iconic riders,” Aldeguer said. “I hope to get to grips quickly with the GP24: we’ll need to approach it step by step, but I cannot wait for the first test of the new season in Valencia.
“I’d like to thank Nadia [Padovani, team owner] and Gigi [Dall’Igna, General Manager, Ducati Corse] for their trust, which will be repaid.”
Racing has seen many riders, including juniors from Moto2, become successful over the years. Team owner, Nadia Padovani, expects Aldeguer to do the same.
“It’s a great pleasure for us to welcome one of the most promising young talents in the series and our goal will be to protect him and help him make his way to the type of results that distinguish us,” Padovani said.
“He’ll be with us for the next two seasons and Ducati will also stay in our garage until at least 2026. We’re doubly happy, so welcome to the team, Fermín!”
Aldeguer had been on Ducati Corse’s radar for some time before signing with the manufacturer for a MotoGP seat. After some success in the European Talent Cup and CEV Stock600 European Championship, the Spanish teenager dominated the FIM Moto2 European Championship in 2021. This earned him a full-time ride in the Moto2 World Championship for 2022 with MB Conveyors SpeedUp.
Aldeguer’s debut Moto2 season was modest, yielding a best race finish of fourth, but 2023 was the Spaniard’s breakout year. Taking his first Moto2 race victory at the British GP, Aldeguer won the last four races of the season to finish third in the championship. Season 2024 has been less than stellar, though, with only two wins after 14 rounds. At time of writing, Aldeguer is fifth in the Moto2 World Championship, but only 55 points behind the leader.
