FEATURE – 2015 Honda CRF450R custom
With MotoGP in lockdown, how do Jack Miller fans get their fix of the Aussie star? Well, they could start with this bike.
Yes, we know it’s not a Ducati Desmosedici GP19, but this CRF does have a Miller connection from the Aussie’s time with Honda and, more specifically, a connection to the 2015 Troy Bayliss Classic flat track event.
If you were lucky enough to be at the Taree Motorcycle Track back in January, 2015, you would have seen this bike in action, as it was raced by Miller against an all-star field that included Chris Vermeulen, Broc Parkes, Dan Reardon, Jack Field, Troy Herfoss, Jay Marmont and Josh Hook to name a few. There were also internationals in attendance, including Henry Wiles and Jared Mees from the USA and Masatoshi Ohmori from Japan, while the legends of motorcycling were represented by the likes of Jeff Leisk, Stephen Gall, Jason Crump and, of course, Troy Bayliss.
While everyone at the Troy Bayliss Classic was there to have fun, it’s only natural that when you bring a bunch of racers together you’re going to get racing! Miller was no exception and got a few mates together to build a bike especially for the event.
Based on a new CRF450R supplied by Honda, Miller’s flat tracker was customised with quality gear from nose to tail, including Moto-Master brake discs, SM Pro wheels and a full complement of Acerbis guards and Axle Armor to handle the inevitable bingles that come with flat track.
Miller’s busy international schedule meant the bike was only used for training in the lead up to the Troy Bayliss Classic and at the event itself. After that it sat unused for some time.
A few years back, when Ray from Made in Germany P/L got the word that Miller was looking to sell the bike, it was an opportunity too good to pass up. Ray was looking for a flat track racer to have a bit of fun on and the Miller Honda would be ideal.
But like Miller, Ray runs a pretty packed calendar as the Australian importer for high-quality Held riding gear, Schuberth helmets and Daytona boots. As such, the bike’s only done one race in his ownership, too. Ray reckons that’s a crime, so he’s putting this one-off Honda on the market. With only 5.5 hours on the engine, the bike’s still virtually new, but the bigger appeal is the genuine Miller provenance. Wanna race the bike that Jack raced? See the breakout box for details.
