2021 GAS GAS mini bike range – MC 50
Gas Gas motorcycles are now in Australia and there’s a four-model mini bike range for kids, starting with the MC 50 - where the fun starts!
As the smallest two stroke in the mini range, the MC 50 is said to feature everything the youngest rider needs to make their first experience on the dirt a positive one.
The 49cc 2-stroke single in the MC 50 is a compact and light unit with a 3-shaft design that positions the crankshaft near the bike’s centre of gravity to improve weight distribution and handling. An additional benefit is a more direct intake angle to the reed valve that improves power.
The actual power output hasn’t been listed, but should be around 8.5kW (11hp). If this is too much for the young rider, it can be wound back to 4.1kW (5.5hp) with a power reduction kit that’s available through the Gas Gas Technical Accessories options list.
Induction is via a Dell’Orto carby and kick start is standard. Fuel capacity is 2.3 litres.
To make it even easier and safer for beginners, the MC 50 features a twist-and-go automatic transmission, so the fundamentals of balance, throttle and braking control can be learned before moving on to gear changing on a larger Gas Gas model.
Front suspension comprises WP XACT 35mm USD forks that offer 205mm of travel and feature thinner outer tube diameters to reduce weight. A WP XACT monoshock on the rear is adjustable and offers 185mm of travel.
At 160mm front and rear, the MC 50’s wave pattern brake discs look meagre, but Gas Gas says they offer serious stopping performance, adding that the entire braking system uses the same technology as full-size MX bikes.
The MC 50 rolls on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear spoked wheels, with the seat height a manageable 665mm.
RRP pricing for the 2021 Gas Gas MC 50 is $5,055.
