Entries open for Harley-Davidson ‘Number One’ competition
Following the runaway success of their ‘Breakout Boss’ competition in late 2022 and 2023, Harley-Davidson Australia and New Zealand have launched a new custom build contest for 2024 – the ‘Number One’ competition.
Open to Harley owners and builders across Australia and NZ, the Number One competition is broader in scope than Breakout Boss, as it’s open to more models in the Harley-Davidson motorcycle family.
In last year’s Breakout Boss competition, Glen Couper was crowned the winner after six rounds of stiff competition. In addition to bragging rights, Glen took home the grand prize that included a unique Breakout Boss plaque, custom Breakout Boss fuel tank, $2,500 Harley-Davidson apparel voucher, a feature in Heavy Duty magazine and promotion on Harley-Davidson’s social media channels.
While Breakout Boss drew a wide variety of entrants and showed enthusiasts’ love of the iconic Softail Breakout, the competition left many customers asking, ‘What’s Next?’. Number One is the answer.
A bigger and better competition, Number One expands the judging categories to allow other models, from Sportsters to the Grand American Touring range and even trikes. That means more Harley owners in Australia and New Zealand have an opportunity to enter – and potentially win the title of Number One Harley-Davidson - than any previous custom build contest.
Number One is divided into three entry categories:
‘Heavyweight Cruiser’ (eg. Breakout, V-Rod, Fat Boy, Dyna, Softail)
‘Bagger’ (eg. Street Glide, Electra Glide, Road Glide, Ultra Limited, Trike)
‘Club Style’ (eg. Dyna, Low Rider, FXR)
There will be three rounds of judging for each category, with 14
Winners in Heavyweight Cruiser, Bagger and Club Style will then face off against each other in Finals Week (1-5 April, 2024), where the overall winner will be decided by a panel of judges with decades of experience in motorcycling and motorcycle customisation.
The expert judging panel will consist of:
● Luke Mansfield – VP of Motorcycle Management, Harley-Davidson
● Nigel Keough – Managing Director, Harley-Davidson ANZ
● Dan Lesnock – Technical Lead, Harley-Davidson ANZ
● Mick Withers – Owner/Editor, Heavy Duty magazine
● Miles ‘Pugs’ Rangeley – Editor, Live To Ride magazine
Category winners will get bragging rights, while the overall winner of the Number One competition will receive a one-off custom trophy built by Harley-Davidson and a $5,000 voucher for use at any Harley-Davidson dealership in Australia or New Zealand.
